Consultation announced for new Aldi store and employment scheme in Ruthin
Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is preparing plans to open a new, high-quality food store and an employment unit just off the A525 (Lon Gwernydd), Ruthin.
As part of its commitment to community consultation, Aldi welcomes the local community to a public exhibition to display its vision for the site:
On: Wednesday 15 May 2019
Between: 3pm and 7pm
At: Llanfwrog Community Centre, Mwrog Street, Ruthin, LL15 1LE
The proposals will see the site, neighbouring the Livestock Market, transformed into an attractive, modern food store, with 138 car parking spaces including dedicated disabled and parent-and-child parking. The scheme will also deliver a new road into the site and a circa 650m2 employment unit, delivered in association with Liberty Properties. It will form part of a ‘hybrid application’ that will also seek outline permission for further employment units at the site, facilitating further investment in the area and bringing over 150 new jobs to Ruthin.
A spokesperson for Aldi said:
“We are delighted to announce our plans to open a new Aldi food store in Ruthin. We know that many of our customers travel out of town to buy our products, and hope that a new store at this location will improve local choice and reduce travel times.
“We want to hear from local people before we submit a planning application in June 2019, and encourage residents to meet us on 15 May at the public exhibition to find out more.”
If the application receives planning permission, the proposal would create up to 40 new jobs at the Aldi store alone, which will be paid at an industry-leading rate of £9.10 per hour as a minimum. There would also be further employment opportunities via the proposed employment units, as well as during construction and via the supply chain.
